Ipswich boss Paul Jewell has signalled his intention to resume his pursuit of Portsmouth's Joel Ward this summer.

Former Wigan boss is already planning for next season

Ipswich boss Paul Jewell has signalled his intention to resume his pursuit of Portsmouth defender Joel Ward this summer. Jewell was interested in completing a deal for Ward along with his then team-mates goalkeeper Stephen Henderson and centre-back Jason Pearce earlier in the season. Henderson eventually ended up signing for West Ham but Pompey decided to retain their other two assets in an attempt to avoid relegation.

Rang

Their attempts have since proved futile and the Tractor Boys boss is now preparing to swoop again after the financially-stricken club were relegated. "I think Pearce is going to Leeds," Jewell told the Green'Un24. "The agent rang me (on Wednesday) about Joel Ward though and I've just passed that on to Marcus (Evans).
Interest
"The player interests us and I met him here about six weeks ago, showed him around and had a good conversation. "He was keen to come, then Portsmouth beat Birmingham and decided to keep players until after the loan deadline. "Obviously it's gone pear-shaped for them and his agent rang me. I don't know how strong the interest is from any other clubs."
