Palace haggle over Hughes

Crystal Palace are 'haggling' with Lincoln City in a bid to sign Jeff Hughes.

Crystal Palace are 'haggling' with Lincoln City in a bid to sign Jeff Hughes.

Peter Taylor has identified Hughes as a replacement for Gary Borrowdale, who is tipped to join Coventry City.

A £200,000 offer for the left-back was rejected earlier in the week, with Lincoln believed to want £300,000.

Palace chairman Simon Jordan has confirmed talks are continuing and is hopeful of concluding a deal for Hughes.

"We're in discussions with Lincoln and at an advanced stage," said Jordan in the Observer.

"There's haggling involved in every deal."

Hughes was tracked by Taylor during the Palace manager's time at Hull City and he could be one of two new defensive arrivals at Selhurst Park.

Reports also claim that Palace are close to agreeing a £250,000 deal to sign Jose Fonte from Portuguese giants Benfica.
