Viking eye Palace raid

Danny Butterfield has emerged as a surprise target for Viking coach Roy Hodgson.

Danny Butterfield has emerged as a surprise target for Viking coach Roy Hodgson.

The Crystal Palace defender is believed to be the English-based player being pursued by the former Blackburn Rovers manager.

"We haven't got a deal yet but it is the same player we tried to loan in the summer, the last time the transfer window was open," explained Hodgson to Stavanger Aftenblad.

"I saw him play against Fulham, actually he has played the last three matches."

Palace may be reluctant to allow Butterfield to leave as Iain Dowie has been utilising his talents recently, unless there is major incoming activity at Selhurst Park this month.

The Stavanger club are seeking reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.
