Algerian working hard to get back to 100 per cent

Macclesfield Town midfielder Hamza Bencherif insists that there is still more to come from him as he continues to rebuild after last year's injury nightmare. The young Algerian, who can also operate at centre-back, suffered a broken ankle in mid-December, which put a premature end to his season and scratched any hopes of him breaking into his country's World Cup squad. However, this season has seen him return to action in fine form, with three goals in his last five games, including the consolation goal in the 2-1 defeat to Lincoln last weekend. The 22-year-old told skysports.com that he is still trying to recover both mentally and physically from the horror injury he suffered more than 10 months ago. "It will take a few months before I am back to 100% again physically and then probably a bit longer until I am 100 per cent mentally again," he said. "I'm not 100% yet, but I am working hard to get back to that stage as quick as I can.

Body and mind

"I can still play football and do the job that is asked of me, but the injury took a lot out of my body and mind, so it was bound to take time to recover from that. "I can still give a lot more and I am focused on getting back to where I was before the injury. "You don't realise until it happens to you how hard it is after you have recovered from the injury. "I've lost a lot of weight from the leg that was injured and that can bring a lot of other problems with it, such as back problems, so you need to look after yourself. "Since the season has started a few of the lads have had a go at me for pulling out of 50/50 tackles when I should have gone for it, but at the moment even when my head is telling me to go for it my body just won't. "It is something that often happens when you pick up such a nasty injury, but it does wear off with time. "If I go into challenges without being fully committed then I'm going to come out in a bad way, but once my body and mind permits me to put 100% into those sorts of tackles then I will go for them with all I've got."
