Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says a deal to sign Javi Guerra from Real Vallodolid is certain to be finalised soon.
The striker had been linked with a move to the Welsh club prior to their relegation from the Premier League, and despite their return to the Championship the move still appears to be nearing completion.
Guerra, 32, has scored 15 goals this season for Vallodolid, who could be relegated from La Liga next weekend.
"He's still joining us, yes," said Solskjaer. "It's a watertight contract all the papers are signed.
"He still needs to do his medical, but he will come and do that this month when the Spanish league has finished. That's all sorted though. After that, he joins us for pre-season."
Signing Guerra would be an early move from Solskjaer as he looks to shape his squad for an attempt to return to the top flight at the first time of asking.
"He scored a couple of goals on the weekend. He's a very exciting player," added the Cardiff boss.
