Haris Vuckic revealed he could be loaned back out to Cardiff - just days after returning to Newcastle from the Welsh promotion chasers.
The Slovenian was expected to stay on at the Championship side after his loan expired on Saturday.
But an injury to Peter Lovenkrands earned the 19-year-old a surprise recall to his parent club and a place on the bench in the defeat against Arsenal on Monday.
And Vuckic says he is now waiting to see if he will be helping Newcastle in their push for Champions League football next season or trying to earn Cardiff a place in the Premier League.

"My loan expired on 10th March and I got told on Sunday morning that I needed to come to London and that I was in the squad," explained the Academy product on Newcastle's
official website.
"I was surprised - but happy as well, and it was a very good experience.
"It was quite a disappointing night for the team because we were really fighting for that point and it's always disappointing when you concede a goal in the last minute, but we just have to stick together and look forward to the next game on Sunday, and try to win."
During his loan spell Vuckic made five appearances in all for Cardiff and scored his first senior goal in a 3-1 win over Peterborough.
International
His performances earned him a call up for his country where he came off the bench to play against Scotland for his full international debut.
"I played a couple of games, which was a good experience and good for my confidence," he added. "I got fitter as well, so the loan has helped me a lot.
"They were happy with me. I just trained as well as I could and when I got an opportunity, I tried to play well. I came on as a sub against Bristol City last weekend. I was very motivated and we got a goal, so I was very happy because I really want Cardiff to get promoted.
"When you're on loan, you have to switch on and just concentrate on that club. I know that Newcastle is my first club but having spent time with Cardiff, I will be happy for them if they go up. And I was really pleased that they got a win which means they're back in the play-off places.
"Hopefully they'll keep winning games and get into the play-offs. We'll see what happens. The gaffer will decide, Newcastle will decide - and I will be happy with either option. If they decide I should go back, I'd be very happy to."
