Eriksson left to rue Maynard; Poyet's men continue 100 per cent start

Bristol City star Nicky Maynard offered a painful reminder of his talents to Sven Goran Eriksson's Leicester on a night when Brighton upset Cardiff. Elsewhere, Millwall threw away a two-goal lead against Peterborough, while Blackpool surrendered their 100 per cent record against unbeaten Derby. Leicester have failed in three bids for Bristol City's Maynard this summer and as a result it was almost inevitable the striker would score at the King Power Stadium. Eriksson made five changes to the starting XI which lost 2-0 at home to Reading on Saturday, including dropped record-signing Matt Mills, and the former England boss would have been desperate to avoid another defeat. But Maynard, who also hit the crossbar with a penalty, was on target either side of a David Nugent response to mean big-spending and pre-season promotion favourites Leicester were booed from the pitch for a second successive match as Bristol City collected their first points with a 2-1 win.

Stunned

Cardiff had collected six points from two games prior to their match against fellow perfect-starters Brighton in Wales. However, Gus Poyet's 2010/11 League One champions stunned their hosts with a 3-1 success, which involved two goals from Ashley Barnes, and they now only trail Championship leaders Southampton on goal difference. Blackpool had not dropped a point since their relegation from the Premier League, but Ian Holloway's men suffered a 1-0 loss against Derby at Bloomfield Road in the late kick-off. Craig Bryson scored the only goal of the game as Nigel Clough's team maintained their own 100 per cent league record this season. Kenny Jackett's Millwall seemed set to cruise to victory over Peterborough at The Den. But two goals in the space of three minutes from Lee Frecklington and substitute Paul Taylor rescued Darren Ferguson's side what had previously looked an unlikely 2-2 draw.
