Jones keeps on knocking

Dave Jones is optimistic he will add to his Cardiff squad before Thursday's deadline.

Dave Jones is optimistic he will add to his Cardiff City squad before Thursday's loan deadline.

The Cardiff boss has been frantically trying to bring in new recruits, but has been turned down several times, most notably by Manchester United striker Alan Smith.

Jones is keen to sign a forward and a full back, and is refusing to concede defeat in his ongoing quest.

"Last week we had nine or 10 knock-backs from other clubs, so what we're doing is going for the cream and working our way down the list," said Jones.

"I've just got to keep knocking and knocking, keep going back to people who've said no and going back and back until we succeed."

Meanwhile, Cardiff's Dutch defender Glenn Loovens has revealed his international aspirations are on hold while he tries to help the club into The Premiership.

Loovens said: "Sure it's a dream and an honour to play for your country, but I'm not currently thinking about the Dutch team at the moment, I'm thinking about Cardiff City.

"All I'm concentrating on is getting to The Premiership with Cardiff, that's my main goal now."
