Sheffield Wednesday striker Will Keane said he did not hesitate in stepping forward to convert his first goal for the club from the penalty spot in Saturday's home draw against Cardiff.

Keane, in his third appearance for Wednesday since arriving on loan from Manchester United at the end of last month, confidently despatched a 75th-minute equaliser to rescue a point for Stuart Gray's side in a 1-1 draw.

"It was my first league goal and every one counts," said the 22-year-old, who will spend the rest of the season on loan at Hillsborough.

"As soon as we got the penalty I was confident enough to take it and was glad to see it go in the back of the net.

"I think Chris McGuire is the designated penalty taker, but obviously he wasn't on the pitch at the time and I was closer to the ball so I just got hold of it.

"As a striker you've got to step up and I was happy to do that. Any penalty that comes around I'll be glad to take."

Wednesday spurned several chances to clinch their first win in four league matches, but the point kept them in touch with the play-off places.

"On another day we might have got a winner and I thought we were unlucky," Keane added.

"These next two games are massive but we just want to take each game as it comes.

"We're obviously disappointed not to get the three points but, with the spirit we showed, we're still confident."
