Brighton and Huddersfield beaten; Posh triumph; Cardiff cruise

Brighton were beaten by Birmingham, Huddersfield suffered a shock home defeat at the hands of Watford, while Peterborough picked up their first victory of the season with an impressive success against Hull City. Cardiff came out on top against Blackpool, Leeds United triumphed on the road against Bristol City and Crystal Palace defeated Bolton at the Reebok Stadium. Brighton were unable to extend their advantage at the top of the table as they suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Birmingham in the evening kick-off, with Chris Burke scoring the only goal of the game in the 27th minute. Huddersfield missed the chance to move top of the Championship as they came unstuck in a five-goal thriller at home to Watford, with Troy Deeney scoring the winner from the spot in the closing stages. Peterborough made the trip to Hull City with nothing to show from their opening seven games, but a hat-trick from Emile Sinclair secured a 3-1 victory over Steve Bruce's shell-shocked side. Cardiff remain well placed among the promotion contenders with Peter Whittingham and Matthew Connolly both finding the net in a 3-0 success over fellow high-flyers Blackpool. Leeds United, who made headlines by defeating Everton in midweek, came out on top 3-2 against Bristol City at Ashton Gate with El-Hadji Diouf scoring a brace for Neil Warnock's men. Blackburn began life after Steve Kean with a 1-1 draw away to Charlton, with Dickson Etuhu putting Rovers ahead and Paul Robinson saving a penalty from Johnnie Jackson before the Addicks man made amends soon after. Middlesbrough's 100 per cent home record was brought to a halt by Leicester with Lloyd Dyer bagging the winner for Nigel Pearson's side with a late deflected effort. Glenn Murray struck from the penalty spot late on for Crystal Palace in their 1-0 win over Bolton after Zat Knight was penalised for a challenge on Wilfried Zaha. Ipswich manager Paul Jewell continues to feel the pressure and watched his side draw 1-1 away to Barnsley, with Aaron Cresswell's opener cancelled out by Stephen Dawson's second-half volley. Darius Henderson struck in the second minute of added time as Millwall hit back to secure a point from an entertaining 2-2 draw at Burnley. Wolves ran out 1-0 winners against Sheffield Wednesday at Molineux with Bakary Sako scoring the only goal of the game shortly before the interval.
