Championship chase on for Baggies defender

Skysports.com understands Sheffield United are leading the race to sign West Brom defender Joe Mattock on loan. West Brom are believed to be prepared to loan out highly-rated full-back Mattock during this month's transfer window until the end of the season. The former Leicester man has yet to feature for West Brom this season and Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo is keen to loan him out so that he can get some valuable first-team action under his belt. With Marek Cech and Nicky Shorey ahead of him in the pecking order at the Hawthorns, Mattock is determined to go out on loan. A host of Championship clubs are thought to have expressed an interest in the England Under 21 international. However, Sheffield United are hoping to win the race for Mattock as Blades boss Micky Adams looks to fill the void left by the serious injury to Andy Taylor.
