South African was glad to get first taste of English game at Preston

Bongani Khumalo is eager for the chance to remind Tottenham what he can do after going on loan to Preston last term. After arriving from Supersport United in January, it was clear the 24-year-old defender would be struggling to get a game with Spurs having been an unused substitute in three Premier League matches. So in March he was loaned to Preston for the rest of the season, making six appearances for the Championship strugglers before being sidelined with a fractured metatarsal. The South Africa international is still recovering from the injury and although Preston were ultimately relegated, he was delighted to get some games under his belt. "It was a great experience to play my first matches in England," he told Tottenham's official website.

Test

"I worked hard at Spurs with all the coaches, got used to the environment, the players and conditions, and it was great to get a test of all I'd learned at Preston. "I did all I could, but my loan spell was cut short through injury." Khumalo is continuing his rehabilitation at Spurs' training ground and hopes to be able to play a part during pre-season. "Everything's on track," he added. "I've been running again and that felt good. I've missed that feeling. "I'm getting stronger and stronger and building up my fitness again."
