Player-coach leaves League One outfit

Colchester United have parted company with player-coach Gary Holt. The 36-year-old midfielder was brought to the League One outfit on a free transfer in July by previous boss Paul Lambert, who also signed him two years ago for Wycombe. But Lambert moved on to fill the Norwich vacancy and Holt has now left the Us after both parties came to an agreement to allow him to depart. His departure comes after he visited new boss Aidy Boothroyd last week to discuss his future.

Boothroyd told the club's official website: "Gary came to see me and said that he thought it would be best for both parties for him to move on. "I know Gary from our time at Norwich and there was no animosity, I respect his decision. "We have parted on good terms and I wish him well for the future."
