U's keepers handed new deals

Dean Gerken and Aidan Davison have both signed new contracts at Colchester.

Colchester United have retained their top two goalkeepers for next season after Dean Gerken and Aidan Davison both signed new contracts.

The two shared the duties between the sticks over the course of the season, although senior partner Davison was first choice with 39 appearances.

The 37-year-old custodian has extended his stay at Layer Road and as part of the agreement he will move into coaching when he decides to hang up his gloves.

Gerken is at a contrasting stage of his career after just completing his full season in the first team.

Despite being just 19 the shot stopper has impressed U's boss Phil Parkinson, and has penned an extension to the deal he signed last summer.

In other news promising youngsters George Elokobi and John White have also been handed new deals at Layer Road whilst midfielder Bobby Bowry has been released.
