Tony Pulis struggled to digest the taste of defeat after Djibril Cisse's late goal snatched victory for QPR against Stoke.
Cameron Jerome blazed a volley wide from eight yards out early on and that seemed to set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
Stoke controlled large parts of the game but failed to find the decisive goal despite having four strikers on the pitch.
"We are desperately disappointed. I don't think we should have lost this game," Pulis told
Sky Sports.
Opportunities
"We had great opportunities right from the first whistle. Cameron has gone through, but all the opportunities and all the chances that we had, I don't think we hit the target once.
"It's happened a lot of times this year, but the application and desire of the players is first class. I don't think anyone can question our committment today.
"We have really had a go at them. The disappointing thing is the final third. We've not been clinical enough and that has happened all season."
As Pulis rightly states, the endeavour of his team was brilliant all afternoon, but they were undone by defensive lapses right at the death.
"Players are given players to mark and pick up and we switched off," he added. "Two players switched off and it's cost us the game - I can't believe that we have lost."
