Coates would ideally like to keep winger

Stoke chairman Peter Coates has confirmed talks are ongoing over the future of Ben Marshall and the club would like to keep the winger. The 20-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and, having impressed while on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, has been linked with several clubs. League One promotion-hopefuls Wednesday want Marshall to return to Hillsborough, but he has also been linked with a £500,000 move to Championship side Leicester. Hull City and Huddersfield are also thought to be interested and the wide-man has himself announced his agent is dealing with all matters regarding his future. Coates has confirmed discussions are taking place, but Stoke would ideally want to retain Marshall. The chairman said in The Sentinel: "We are still in talks, but these things take time. Ben has done very well at Sheffield Wednesday. "We want to keep anyone who has come through our system and who we think can play in our first team."
