Russell goes back to Norwich

Darel Russell has rejoined Norwich City from Stoke City for an undisclosed sum.

Darel Russell has rejoined Norwich City from Stoke City for an undisclosed sum.

The midfielder left Carrow Road four years ago and has made over 180 appearances during his time with Stoke.

But he has now opted for a return to his first club and has signed a three-year contract with Peter Grant's side.

Russell admits the presence of Grant, who was a team-mate during his first spell with the club, was a key factor in his decision to link up with Norwich again.

"Just knowing that Granty was here - he was a good professional when he was playing and I knew he was going to do things right here," Russell told the club's official website.

"As a manager he wants to be playing football the way I want to play football as a midfielder.

"It's nice to get it wrapped up. I had a little bit of deja vu coming into the city and driving down the A11.

"The team is completely different and there's only a couple of players who were here first time round - Jason Shackell and Adam Drury, I think.

"I've got a lot more experience and I've got a lot stronger since I was last here.

"I've been playing regularly over the last four seasons, so hopefully that can stand me in good stead."
