Russell takes monthly honour

Stoke City's Darel Russell is the Championship's Player of the Month for November.

Stoke City midfielder Darel Russell has been named the Championship's Player of the Month for November.

The former Norwich City man joins Nottingham Forest midfielder Kris Commons from League One and Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Steve Phillips from League Two in claiming the monthly honours.

Russell was instrumental in helping The Potters to record five straight victories without conceding a goal, as Tony Pulis's side aim to stake their claim for promotion to the Premiership.

Commons took the November award for League One after a string of fine performances helped Forest maintain their place on the division's summit.

Former Bristol City custodian Phillips won the League Two award after recording clean sheets in Rovers' wins over Mansfield Town, Bury and Barnet last month.
