Nantes have made an offer for Moroccan international striker Nourdin Boukhari.
The 25-year-old scored five times in 26 appearances for Ajax this season, but is now free to leave the club on a Bosman transfer.
Nantes meanwhile have struggled to score goals all season long, with just 36 in 37 games in Ligue 1.
The ready availability of the former Amsterdam ArenA man makes him a prime target for the Beaujoire-Louis-Fonteneau outfit.
And Nantes chairman Rudi Rousillon is keen to make Boukhari the club's first summer signing.
"The club have made him a very serious offer," a Nantes spokesman told But!
"To have a player of this level, without having to pay a fee, that is a great opportunity."
Stoke City were linked with a move for the front-man in the January transfer window and it is not clear yet whether this offer will rekindle their interest in the player.
Nantes are 14th in the country's top flight while Ajax finished fourth in the Dutch Eredivisie a disappointing 24 points behind champions PSV Eindhoven.
