Southampton defender José Fonte has signed a new three-and-a-half year deal with the club.
Fonte, 28, had no hesitation in committing his future to the Saints, who currently sit top of the Championship.
"It was a very easy decision," he told Southampton's
official website.
"I am extremely happy to sign because this is the only place that I want to be, and when we talked about it, it was one of the happiest days of my life because I really enjoy being here and working here.
"The chairman here is doing a great job, the manager is doing a great job and all of the staff too, so for me this is the place to be."
Fonte hopes to be playing Premier League football next season.
"That is the plan and we want to be there as soon as possible, so we just have to keep going," he added.
"At the moment we are doing very well so we want to take this opportunity right now, but we have plans and the chairman has his ideas on the future of this club, and we all just want to be a part of it."
