Thousands of mourners turned out in Wolverhampton on Tuesday for the funeral of Sir Jack Hayward.

The former Wolves owner died last month at the age of 91, and his coffin was taken on a lap of the Molineux pitch on its way to St Peter's Collegiate Church.

Hayward's money helped transform his club's old stadium during his 17-year reign, and promotion to the Premier League was also achieved before he sold up in 2007.

A fly-past by the 671 Squadron Army Air Corps - with whom Hayward once served - signalled the start of the cortege, which was greeted with applause as it passed through the town.

Among those to speak at the service were Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and former England cricketer Rachael Heyhoe-Flint, both Wolves supporters.
