Bakary Sako will be given until the last minute to prove his fitness for Wolves' Midlands derby.

Wolves host Birmingham on Saturday in the Sky Bet Championship after Blues appointed Gary Rowett as their new boss on Monday.

Sako missed Saturday's 2-1 win at Leeds with a groin injury he picked up during the 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough last week.

The seven-goal forward has helped fire Wolves to third in the table and Kenny Jackett is hopeful Sako will be fit for their derby showdown.

"We will give him until Thursday, possibly Friday," he told the club's official site. "I had been fairly confident he would be fit for Leeds but he didn't quite make it."

James Henry will again deputise should Sako fail to recover while Leon Clarke is also pushing to start after netting the winner at Elland Road after coming off the bench.

It was his first goal of the season and just his second since rejoining Wolves, where he started his career, from Coventry in January.

And Jackett believes the 29-year-old is improving after struggling to adapt to life back at Molineux.

He said: "Leon has shown good form as well. He's always committed and whole-hearted when he plays and, in a slightly withdrawn role, he's probably at his best, linking the play from just behind the man at the point of the team.

"Scoring the winner will do him and the club a lot of good. He has shown really good commitment and understands our system more than he has at any stage since he has been here."
