Wolves defender due to go under the knife after breaking his wrist

Wolves have confirmed that Richard Stearman is to undergo surgery on the wrist he broke during Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Everton. The defender suffered the injury after falling awkwardly following an aerial challenge with Toffees forward Tim Cahill. It was quickly established that he was in no position to continue and his afternoon at Goodison Park ended after 58 minutes. He was taken to a nearby hospital at Aintree for immediate treatment, where the fracture was reduced, but he will be forced to go under the knife on Monday to have the problem fully repaired. "It was really disappointing for us to lose Stears on Saturday and, more importantly, disappointing for him," Wolves boss Mick McCarthy told the club's official website.

"He's going in to have the operation today where he'll have a plate inserted and we'll know more after the surgery." Steve Kemp, head of Wolves' medical department, added: "As everyone saw, Richard suffered a fractured radius in the game and was immediately taken to hospital in Aintree for treatment where the facture was reduced. "He is going up to be reviewed again today by a top surgeon in the North West and then undergo an operation where he will have a plate inserted. "Clearly he will face a spell on the sidelines but we will have more of an idea of how long after the surgery. "We would also like to thank the staff at Everton and the medical staff at the hospital, who were extremely helpful to us on Saturday."
