Cameroon skipper keen to get defender on board

Skysports.com understands Cameroon are hoping to recruit Wolves defender George Elokobi for next summer's World Cup finals. Elokobi, who was born in Somalia, qualifies for Cameroon through his parents and the defender is believed to be keen to pledge his allegiance to the African giants. Cameroon already have the likes of Tottenham duo Sebastien Bassong and Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Arsenal ace Alexandre Song, Newcastle midfielder Geremi and Burnley defender Andre Bikey plying their trade in England, and Elokobi could be the next English-based player to link up with the Indomitable Lions. Cameroon are looking to pool their resources ahead of next month's African Cup of Nations and next summer's World Cup finals, and highly-rated defender Elokobi has come to their attention. Indomitable Lions captain Rigobert Song has personally called Elokobi to sound him out about playing for Cameroon and the 23-year-old is ready to take up the offer. "I received a call from Rigobert Song about possibly playing for Cameroon," Elokobi told skysports.com. "He asked me about my situation with the national team and whether I would like to play for Cameroon. "I would love to play for Cameroon and I was flattered Rigobert went out of his way to call me. "I am coming back from injury so I am unlikely to go to the African Cup of Nations, but hopefully I can go to the World Cup." Song believes Elokobi can be the next Premier League-based star to join the Cameroon ranks. "We have some good players playing in England and we believe we have just found another in George Elokobi," Song told skysports.com. "We have heard some good reports on him and I have spoken to him to find out about his situation." "Hopefully he can play for Cameroon and make us even stronger as a team."
