SUPER STURRIDGE BELTS BARNSLEY

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS moved a point clear at the top of Division One after registering an impressive 4-1 victory over struggling Barnsley on Tuesday.

Dean Sturridge (pictured with Andy Sinton) continued his impressive start with Wolves by snaring a hat-trick, taking his tally to four goals in two games.

The striker on loan from Leicester City gave Dave Jones's men an early lead after nine minutes before going on to double the lead just after the half-hour mark.

Shaun Newton made it 3-0 halfway through the second-half before Sturridge completed the scoring in the 76th minute.

Chris Barker grabbed Barnsley's goal just before the break, but they had little reply to Wolves' impressive firepower and remain firmly entrenched in the bottom three.

Separating The Tykes from bottom place are Stockport County, who crashed to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Gillingham.

Iffy Onoura opened the scoring during the first-half before Marlon King hammered a nail into The Hatters' coffin with his 88th minute effort.
