Scot to take up first sole managerial role

Sky Sports sources understand Steve Clarke is set to be appointed West Brom's new manager in the next 24 hours. The 48-year-old has emerged as the favourite to replace England manager Roy Hodgson at The Hawthorns. Former Schalke boss Ralf Rangnick had looked set to take charge of the Baggies, but it appears Clarke has beaten him to the job Clarke is free to join West Brom after leaving Liverpool earlier this week following the arrival of Brendan Rodgers at Anfield. Clarke made his name as assistant boss at Chelsea, where he worked alongside Jose Mourinho and Avram Grant. In September 2008 he crossed London to take up a similar role beside Gianfranco Zola, who had just been appointed manager at West Ham. Should Clarke be appointed by the Baggies he will become the club's fourth manager in six years.
