Appleton happy to raid former club for Thorne and Mattock

Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton has completed a double swoop on his former club West Bromwich Albion by signing George Thorne and Joe Mattock on loan. Skysports.com revealed on Wednesday that Appleton, who recently left his role as West Brom assistant to take charge of Pompey, was lining up a move for Thorne and Mattock. Teenage midfielder Thorne and full-back Mattock have now arrived at Fratton Park until 2nd January and Appleton is happy with the double deal. "We've got plenty of experience, but I'm desperate to bring more competition for places," Appleton told Pompey's official website. "The people I'm looking to come through the door need to be young, hungry and desperate to be successful - and want to be part of something exciting here." The duo should be added to the squad which hosts Mattock's former club Leicester on Saturday. Mattock joined the Baggies from Leicester in 2009, but has yet to feature in the Premier League for the club, while Thorne made a substitute appearance in the recent 3-0 defeat at Arsenal.
