Gera: Baggies will be tough

Zoltan Gera feels West Brom will prove a match for their Championship rivals this term.

Zoltan Gera feels West Bromwich Albion will prove a match for their Championship rivals this season.

Following last term's relegation from The Premiership, Bryan Robson's side are chasing an immediate return to the top flight.

The quest started in the perfect fashion as a second half brace from summer signing John Hartson secured a 2-0 victory over Hull City on Saturday.

Gera felt the performance put down a marker for the coming months and he was also happy with his own display in the opening day win.

"It was very important for us to start the season with a win," Gera told his personal website.

"We had some really nice attacks and I did my best to be part of them. This time I think I played well, but unfortunately we couldn't score for a long period in the game and I also had two efforts.

"I think with the performance we showed in the first half we could be a tough opponent against any other team.

"It's interesting that Hartson scored our two goals when we weren't on top like we were in the first 45 minutes.

"I was working hard and became a bit tired at the end, so my coach took me off for the last quarter of an hour of the game.

"It was a good feeling to win our first match and I was happy that our fans supported us in The Championship, too."
