Bryan Robson hopes West Brom's victory over Arsenal was a turning point in the season.
West Brom boss Bryan Robson has voiced his hope that West Brom's fantastic win over Arsenal can kick start The Baggies' season.The Midlands side surprised their more illustrious opponents to move three points clear of the relegation zone and leave Arsenal's title challenge floundering.
A tremendous volley from Darren Carter handed The Baggies all three points, and Robson held out hope that the victory could prove a turning point in what has been a disappointing season so far.
"The lads are pleased with themselves," Robson told Sky Sports.
"We worked hard in the game and scored two very good goals.
"It's always difficult playing against the Arsenal so we are delighted tonight but we know that there was better to come from us and hopefully that is the turning point for our season and we start performing like we know we can do.
"The most pleasing part for me was when we scored the second goal the way we closed the game up.
"I thought the players did that very well where we haven't been particularly that good at doing that in the past so that was pleasing.
"But when you beat the Arsenal it's a good three points."
Chris Kirkland was again superb after moving on loan from Liverpool as he pulled off a string of impressive saves, and Robson revealed that his tremendous second half may have been due to a stern word during the break.
"It's funny because at half time I had a bit of a go at Chris because of the Arsenal goal because I thought he should have come for the cross," Robson continued.
"But he responded terrifically well because he made some outstanding saves and he dominated the area."
Whilst Kirkland provided the foundation for the victory, Carter clinched it in style with a 20-yard volley that smashed past Jens Lehmann, and Robson said it was the perfect response to his frustrations at not making the first eleven.
"I think it's goal of the month, it's a terrific strike I'm pleased for Darren because ever since he's come he's been in and out of the team and he was involved today which he was pleased about and it's a cracking goal."
