Hill signs new Preston deal

Preston defender Matt Hill has signed a two-year contract extension.

Matt Hill has agreed a two-year contract extension at Preston.

The defender, who had one-year to run on his previous deal, was named the Championship club's player of the season last year and Preston boss Paul Simpson has acted to secure the 26-year-old.

Hill is now tied to Deepdale until 2010 and he admits he was beginning to feel anxious at the fact that his future was unclear.

"It's good to start the season with a new contract," he told Preston's official website.

"I started to get nervous because you come into unknown territory when you're at one-year left.

"You don't know what's going to happen but thankfully the club have rewarded me with a new contract and I'm very grateful and happy to sign."

Hill joined Preston in January 2005, in a £100,000 move from Bristol City, and has gone on to make 82 first-team starts.
