Davies admits Johnson interest

Derby boss Billy Davies feels Eddie Johnson could have a major impact in England.

Derby County boss Billy Davies feels USA striker Eddie Johnson could have a major impact in the Premier League.

The Kansas City Wizards hit-man has been linked with a move to Pride Park, although the MLS club are determined to hang on to Johnson.

The USA international has been in sparkling form this season and he has been a long-term target of Davies.

Though not confirming he would bid for Johnson, the Rams manager acknowledged the player has the potential to be a success in English football.

"He is young, has great pace and also a point to prove because he has never played in England before," Davies told the Derby Evening Telegraph.

"He scores goals for fun and has started the American season like a house on fire. He is the most valued player in the MLS.

"Very few American players have come to this country and failed.

"They have a lot to offer, they are fit and they are very good professionals."

Johnson has been selected to start the MLS All-Star game against Celtic in Denver on Thursday evening.
