Carlisle consider Thirlwell

Derby midfielder Paul Thirlwell is being lined up for a loan move to Carlisle United.

Derby County midfielder Paul Thirlwell is being lined up for a loan move to Carlisle United.

The 27-year-old has not figured for The Rams this season and Billy Davies is prepared to let the player move on.

Reports claim Carlisle are interested in Thirlwell and a loan deal could be arranged once temporary transfers are permitted again on Friday.

Cumbrians boss Neil McDonald has expressed his eagerness to sign a player on loan, and reports suggest Thirlwell is his target.

If McDonald gets his prime target, he is hoping to field his new signing in Saturday's League One clash with fellow promoted side Northampton Town.

Thirlwell joined Derby last summer from Sheffield United, but has struggled to make an impact during his time at Pride Park.
