Experienced Greece international signs on loan from Wolfsburg

Sunderland have bolstered their defensive options with the loan signing of experienced Sotirios Kyrgiakos until the end of the season. The much-travelled former Liverpool defender has arrived at the Stadium of Light from German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg. The capture of the 32-year-old Greece international comes after Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill also signed Manchester City's Wayne Bridge on loan on transfer deadline day. O'Neill told the club's official website: "Sotirios offers a real physical presence, coupled with a wealth of experience, which will be an undoubted benefit to us in the next few months. "I'm delighted to welcome him to the club and I'm sure he is looking forward to the challenge of returning to the Premier League." Kyrgiakos, who could make his Sunderland debut against Stoke this weekend, began his career with Athens side Panathinaikos and has also played for Rangers and German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt. He made 49 appearances in two years at Anfield before moving to Wolfsburg last summer, where he has played seven times.
