Keeper reveals City deal

Michael Ingham has revealed he almost joined Coventry City on deadline day.

Michael Ingham has revealed he almost joined Coventry City on deadline day.

The Sunderland keeper came on as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat to Reading at the weekend but had been lined up to leave the Championship leaders last month.

With the Northern Irishman's contract due to expire in the summer, his long-term future would appear to be away from The Stadium of Light.

"If I am honest, I never thought I would play for Sunderland again," he told The Journal.

"I thought my chance had gone.

"I was supposed to leave on transfer deadline day and I had a move to Coventry lined up but the gaffer pulled the plug because Mart Poom was injured and he wanted me as cover."

Mick McCarthy is hoping Thomas Myhre will recover from a back problem in order to play in Sunday's live Sky Sports clash at Ipswich Town.
