Sunderland seal Collins deal

Chester City defender Danny Collins has signed for Sunderland.

Chester City's Danny Collins has signed for Sunderland, as revealed first by skysports.com.

Collins put pen-to-paper on Monday for The Black Cats and ends a long chase by Mick McCarthy.

Chester wanted to keep their prized asset, but the offer of over £100,000 was too tempting for City to turn down.

The League Two outfit also stated that they were not willing to stand in Collins's way, confirming that the opportunity was a great one for the 24-year-old.

Collins is the latest player to be snapped up from the lower leagues by McCarthy this season, following the purchases of Dean Whitehead and Liam Lawrence from Oxford and Mansfield respectively.

Chester have promised the money from Collins's sale will be made available to manager Ian Rush, should he wish to bolster his squad.
