United new boy says boss Houston sold club to him

Gavin Gunning is excited about playing for Dundee United after joining the Terrors ahead of other sides. The former Blackburn Rovers youngster spent the second half of last season on loan at Motherwell and the Fir Park club were keen on signing Gunning permanently along with fellow SPL outfit Aberdeen and League One side Scunthorpe. But Gunning opted to move to Tannadice on a three-year deal after revealing Peter Houston sold the club to him. The 20-year-old full-back told the Daily Record: "The move took a bit longer than I expected because I had a few things to sort out at Blackburn. "But I'm delighted it has all been finalised now. "I had a few other options in England and up here in Scotland but after speaking to the manager he sold me on Dundee United.

Really impressed

"Obviously I knew about the club from playing against them last season but I spoke to Peter Houston on the phone and was really impressed by what he had to say. "This is a good club and the team have been improving steadily over the last few years so it's an exciting place to be. "It's good I have experience of the SPL already so I know what to expect." The defender made his debut as a late substitute in the 5-1 defeat at Celtic at the weekend and Houston then arranged a bounce game against Hibs on Monday to get Gunning and Danny Swanson 90 minutes of action. The United boss said: "It was good to get Gunny out playing because it was tough for him to come on late in the game at Celtic last weekend. "We're delighted to have got him and I'm sure he will prove as he goes along how good a player he is."
