Full-back could not turn down Premier League opportunity

Hibernian full-back David Murphy has admitted he could not turn down the chance to join Birmingham. Murphy has agreed personal terms with Alex McLeish's Blues and is set to complete a transfer on Thursday after undergoing a medical. Wigan and Bolton were also understood to be interested but Murphy is excited to be on his way to Birmingham, having played for Middlesbrough at the start of his career. "I just couldn't turn down the chance to play in the Premiership and Birmingham are a terrific club for me," Murphy told the Daily Record. "Obviously I know all the management staff because I have heard so much about them with their Scottish links. "But I know a few of their players too and that will be a big help.

Taste

"I had a taste of the Premiership earlier in my career and I am delighted to get the chance to go back." Murphy is grateful to Hibs for letting him go and proud of what he has achieved in Scotland. He said: "The Hibs fans have been terrific because they knew my situation and that means an awful lot, "I was at Hibs for three-and-a-half years and have absolutely fantastic memories of my time at the club. "Hibs will always mean something to me and provided one of the best moments in my career when we won the CIS Cup at Hampden last year."
