Adrian Heath hopes Gary McSheffrey receives a good reception upon the striker's first return to Coventry City.
McSheffrey left The Ricoh Arena in August in a £4 million transfer to Birmingham City, but heads back to Coventry for Tuesday's Championship clash.
Sky Blues assistant manager Heath is aware the 24-year-old could come in for some stick from his old supporters.
But Heath feels McSheffrey should not bear the brunt of any of the fans' frustrations as the Birmingham offer was too good for the club to refuse.
"I hope he gets a really good reception because he should do," Heath told Sky Sports News.
"He never asked to leave the football club, circumstances dictated he left.
"We got a great offer for him and the club felt it had to take that money.
"Everybody liked him enormously. We will have to look after him on Tuesday. He got a couple of goals on Saturday and we look forward to seeing him."
Coventry midfielder Michael Doyle admits the hosts will have to be on their guard in a bid to shackle the returning striker.
Doyle said: "Everyone knows what he's all about. He's a great player and a great lad, and we will all welcome him back.
"Before the game you get your match head on, and try and win the game.
"We will have to stop him scoring, and try and keep a clean sheet."
