Bruce hopeful over Izzet

Birmingham boss Steve Bruce wants fans to be patient with Muzzy Izzet.

Birmingham boss Steve Bruce wants fans to be patient with Muzzy Izzet.

The Turkish international is once again sidelined after lasting just half an hour of his comeback against Scunthorpe last week.

Izzet had already come on as substitute a number of times this season, but the match at Glanford Park was his first start since November 2004.

After breaking down against Scunthorpe, Izzet failed a fitness test before the Premiership match with Liverpool with his new Achilles problem.

The former Chelsea and Leicester man has been dogged with injuries since moving to St Andrews In 2004 and has started just 10 league games.

Bruce is still hoping Izzet is not far away from full fitness.

"It's a shame for Muzzy because we all saw at Portsmouth a really good performance from him," said Bruce.

"It was the same last year at Liverpool when he got back into the team after his knee problems and aggravated it.

"We hope this latest one is nothing too serious. Muzzy was a £6.5 million player a few years back, remember."
