Owls sign young Bruce

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Birmingham City defender Alex Bruce on loan.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Paul Sturrock has signed his second player in as many days by landing Birmingham City defender Alex Bruce on loan.

The moves comes a day after the former Southampton boss had signed defensive midfielder Steve Adams from his former club Plymouth Argyle.

Bruce arrives at Hillsborough after ending his loan spell with League One rivals Oldham Athletic.

The 20-year-old - son of Birmingham boss Steve - joins The Owls until the end of the current season, with the youngster being made available for the play-offs should Wednesday secure their place in the weeks to come.

Sturrock was delighted to add cover for his backline by signing Bruce on Thursday.

"I have followed Alex's career closely and seen him in a lot of reserve games," Sturrock told the club's official website.

"He is a right back, but can play anywhere across the defence and he did very well in his spell with Oldham - he was outstanding in the TV game against Bolton."
