Town target Bennett

IPSWICH TOWN have targeted Birmingham City's Ian Bennet for next season, as Joe Royle looks to take his side to The Premiership.

Royle confirmed his interest in Bennett, who is aware that City are looking for another goalkeeper.

With Nico Vaesen injured, the custodian - who recently had a testimonial with his club - has been offered a two-year deal to remain with Blues.

However, rumours abound that a top-class goalkeeper will arrive at St Andrews in the close season, and Bennett could be ready to move on.

"He (Bennett) is one of those on my short list," confirmed Royle to the EADT.

"We have not agreed to have talks or anything like that as yet, but Ian is one we have made enquiries about.

"Birmingham have offered him a new contract so now he must decide if he wants to stay there or if he wants first-team football here."

Meanwhile Ipswich's Dutch youth Nabil Abidallah has returned from a trial in Switzerland admitting he wants to remain.

The 20-year-old did not overly enjoy his spell with FC Thun and wants to concentrate on proving himself at Ipswich.
