Eidur Gudjohnsen marked his return to the international scene with a goal on Saturday and has been dubbed "a different breed" by his old Iceland team-mate Gretar Steinsson.

Bolton forward Gudjohnsen, 36, had originally called time on his career with his country when they lost to Croatia in a play-off to decide who would head to the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.

However, now back featuring for Wanderers in the Sky Bet Championship, he answered Iceland's call again this month and responded by scoring in the Euro 2016 qualifying win against Kazakhstan.

He may be three years Steinsson's senior, but the former Bolton defender and current technical director at Fleetwood played alongside him on the international stage and paid tribute to Gudjohnsen's evergreen nature.

"It's fantastic for him," said Steinsson.

"He's a player of a different breed. He was fantastic to train with, to play with and he's got a wealth of experience.

"It's fantastic for fans in the Championship to be able to see him on the pitch and doing well."
