Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has warned his players they will have to demonstrate their Sky Bet Championship promotion credentials if they are to avoid an FA Cup upset at Barnsley.

The Teessiders head for Oakwell in the third round on Saturday knowing they will not have things their own way against Danny Wilson's men.

Karanka told the club's official, website: "Sometimes you can think you are better than them, but if you go there thinking that and they play with more intensity, it will be difficult.

"We are in a good position in the Championship, but we have to show them on the pitch. In this country - in any country - if you go to play against a team below you, you can have problems.

"We have to go there thinking it will be a difficult game. Their squad was in the Championship last season.

"I like their manager a lot too. He's a very good coach and a very good person. He went past 1,000 games as a manager a few weeks ago, which says a lot."
