Chris Hughton admits interest in vacant manager posts at Crystal Palace and Brighton

Former Newcastle and Norwich boss open to offers

Chris Hughton talks to Goals on Sunday about a return to football and vacancies at Crystal Palace and Brighton.

Premier League strugglers Palace are looking for a manager after dismissing Neil Warnock on Saturday, while Championship side Brighton’s post is available following the resignation of Sami Hyypia on December 22.

Hughton, who has been out of work since being sacked by Norwich City in April, told Goals on Sunday: “On their own merits, they are both very good jobs.

“With Palace you have got a side that are in the Barclays Premier League and fared extremely well last season. They have had some difficult times of course of late, but they have showed some good form this season.

“Brighton have a wonderful structure and a wonderful stadium, new training facilities, and, of course, they are a side that have been very close to the play-offs in two previous seasons.

'Interested'

“Yes, they are both good jobs and I think any manager who is out of work at this particular moment would be interested.”

Palace currently sit 18th in the Premier League, one point adrift of safety, while Brighton are second bottom of the Championship, three points from safety.

Hughton, 56, refused to reveal whether or not he had spoken to either club about their manager positions.

He said: “A good thing for myself is that when a job becomes available, I’m getting linked with these positions. That’s a good part.

“What we will always get involved in is the opportunity to speak to clubs. Some you do, some you don’t. When you do, it's something that should be coming from their end, as opposed to mine.

“If you have been linked and have spoken to a club, the onus is one them to make that known, as opposed to yourself.”
