Britt Assombalonga expects Nottingham Forest to be boosted by a loan arrival, with a deal for Tom Ince reported to be close.

Stuart Pearce has spent the past few weeks identifying and pursuing top targets.

A creative influence in midfield was believed to be a top priority for Forest, who have lost the likes of Andy Reid and Chris Cohen to injury.

Time will tell what happens, but if he comes in it will be a good thing. It is up to the manager what he wants to do. He knows what is best for the club.

Hull City winger Ince would certainly fit the bill and is a player Pearce knows well from his time in charge of the England Under-21 side.

Assombalonga, a striker would welcome another source of ammunition on the flanks, is reluctant to speculate on the likelihood of Ince arriving at the City Ground, but he is prepared to admit that fresh faces would help to give the squad ‘a lift’ amid an eight-match winless run.

He said in the Nottingham Post: "The manager knows what he is doing, he will know the right players to bring in and the kind of players we don't need to bring to the club.

"It might give us a lift. At the end of the day sometimes you have to take a chance on something, to see if it does give you a boost.

"He (Ince) is a good player, I can't say anything else, because he is a good player.

"Time will tell what happens, but if he comes in it will be a good thing. It is up to the manager what he wants to do. He knows what is best for the club."

Assombalonga, a £5.5million signing from Peterborough United over the summer, has made a positive start to his Forest career but is convinced that there is still more to come from him as he looks to build on an early nine-goal return.

He added: "As a striker you want to score goals. You also want to prove to yourself that you can do it in the higher division. That is still what I am trying to do.

"I just have to prove that I can keep getting better. I don't want to settle for anything. I want to keep improving.

"I don't know if it has altered my ambitions, because I don't really set myself any goal targets.

"I am just going with the flow. I am just going to try my hardest and hope that things go well."
