Scotland, who only signed for the Tykes on a short-term deal on Monday after being released by Ipswich, netted with his first touch in the 67th minute just 90 seconds after replacing Marlon Harewood.
"I won't be taking any credit for Jason Scotland," said Flitcroft, who had earlier seen Chris Dagnall give his side an 11th-minute lead.
"I'm into complete team unity, that's the way I am. I'm a team player and always will be and Jason played his part in what was an incredible team performance.
"The group have covered every blade of grass, they've used every sinew, run all over the opposition, out-passed the opposition, outfought them and come out on top.
"Jason's finish was exquisite, but I look at his all-round game, his intelligence, runs and link-up play and he said to me before the game: 'Don't worry about me Flick, I've got an unbelievable touch and my movement is great.'
"His talk is unbelievable and how relaxed is he in his whole approach? But what a lovely fellow.
"I've only known him 24 hours, but there's already an excitement round him and a calmness and I look forward to working with him because he might have found a home here."
