Watford clear path for appointment of Zola

Watford have sacked Sean Dyche as manager to pave the way for Gianfranco Zola's arrival, Sky Sports understands. Dyche took charge at Vicarage Road last summer following Malky Mackay's switch to Cardiff, having previously worked as youth-team coach and assistant manager. He enjoyed a solid season in his first year in management as he guided the Hornets to an 11th-placed finish in the Championship. However, his future at the club was plunged into doubt when the Pozzo family completed a takeover last week. The new owners were expected to take Watford forward in a new direction and it has now emerged that Dyche has parted company with the club. Giampaolo Pozzo announced on Monday that he had reached a verbal agreement with Gianfranco Zola for his fellow Italian to become Watford's new boss. Zola has been out of work since leaving West Ham a couple of years ago but is now set to get the opportunity to try his luck again in English football. The Pozzos believe he is the man who can lead them to promotion and it is anticipated that it will not take long for an appointment to be finalised.
