Leeds new boy spurned China & Qatar moves for Elland Road

Danny Webber has revealed he rejected lucrative offers from China and Qatar to join Leeds United. Webber, who had been without a club since leaving Portsmouth last summer, has agreed a short-term deal until the end of the season. The 30-year-old, who made his debut in last weekend's defeat to Southampton, admits linking up with old Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock again played a major part in his decision to snub the other offers to move to Elland Road. Chinese outfit Guangzhou Evergrande and several clubs from Qatar spoke to Webber about a possible deal, but once Leeds came calling the former Manchester United man had no hesitation in making the move to West Yorkshire.

Attractive offers

"I spoke to a few clubs in China and in Qatar and I went over there to have talks and have a look around the club," Webber told skysports.com. "I was treated very well by everyone in China and Qatar and the offers were very attractive, but once I knew Leeds were interested in me my mind was made up. "It is a brilliant opportunity for me to prove people wrong and prove to myself I can still do the business after my injury problems. "I am confident in my ability and I have never doubted it and I will continue to work had to get to back to playing at the highest level I can." Webber admits he is looking forward to continuing his career at Elland Road, having enjoyed success when playing there with his previous clubs. "I have always enjoyed playing at Leeds as I have always done quite well there," added Webber. "Hopefully I can pick up on those good performances at Elland Road and help Leeds for the rest of the season and try and help them get promotion."
