Nick Barmby insists the door has not closed on Republic of Ireland international Kevin Kilbane's career at Hull City.
Kilbane has not played a first-team game for the Tigers in almost a year after spending the second half of last season on loan at Huddersfield Town and the first half of the current campaign at Derby County.
The 34-year-old is currently back at Hull to receive treatment on a back injury and caretaker manager Barmby is not ruling out using the versatile Kilbane during the Tigers' push for promotion.
"The main thing is that Killer needs to get himself fit," Barmby told the
Hull Daily Mail.
Struggling
"He'll have another 10 days to two weeks out and then we'll assess him again to see how he is.
"He's struggling with a back problem at the minute, but if he gets himself fit again you've got an international player coming back into your squad.
"He can play in numerous positions and hopefully, if we're still in the promotion race by March and April, he could come into it.
"The door will be open for Killer and he knows that. But the main thing is first to get himself fit and when the time is right, push for a place back in the equation."
