Foxes striker set for lengthy absence

Managerless Leicester City have been dealt a blow after it emerged striker Darius Vassell is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury. The former Aston Villa and England striker fell awkwardly in the first half of the Foxes game at West Ham last Saturday and had to be substituted before half-time. The 31-year-old missed Leicester's 3-1 win at Burnley in midweek while the injury was assessed and it has since been revealed that it may keep the striker out for several weeks. "Darius's injury looks as though it is going to be quite long term," interim manager John Rudkin told the Leicester Mercury. "It is a knee injury. We are not too sure about the severity of the injury as we are still seeing specialists, but unfortunately it sounds as though it could be quite a while for him. "We wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully see him back soon.

Excellent

There was one piece of good news for City with striker Paul Gallagher making a goalscoring comeback after six weeks out with an ankle injury. The former Blackburn man netted from the penalty spot at Turf Moor on Tuesday to seal a win that took the Foxes up to ninth in the Championship. "Gally has been excellent, as have a number of players who came in having not played much recently," added Rudkin, who along with coach Mike Stowell is managing the first-team while the club seek a replacement for Sven Goran Eriksson "He is able to deliver great quality. We are all aware of his quality from free-kicks. We were quite a big team (at Burnley) so we were a threat, and we scored from two open play areas as well."
